PBI Agentic Dev: teach your AI agent Power BI

A plugin marketplace of skills, agents and hooks that help Claude Code, GitHub Copilot and OpenAI Codex build semantic models and reports without guessing.

A fork of Kurt Buhler’s power-bi-agentic-development (Data Goblins, Tabular Editor). The original work is his. This fork adds eight skills of mine and tracks his releases selectively.

What is agentic development?

You describe the report or model you want, and an AI agent builds it: TMDL, PBIR, DAX, the lot. It works on the files a Power BI project is made of, the same way it works on code.

Out of the box an agent guesses at those formats and gets them subtly wrong. A plugin gives it the knowledge instead: skills it reads when the task calls for them, reviewers that check its work, and hooks that validate every file it writes.

Install it in Claude Code

Add the marketplace once, then install only the plugins you need. Every skill competes for the agent’s attention.

What this fork adds

Eight skills I wrote on top of Kurt’s, each from a real build that went wrong first.

dax-standard

The house style for measures: table-first DAX and dynamic format strings.

date-table

A ready-made 58-column DimDate, dropped into any PBIP model.

pbi-planWIP

Plan a multi-session build as tickets, with a live HTML plan board.

pbi-verify-loop

Refresh, settle, screenshot: see every report edit rendered.

power-bi-theme

Browse a gallery of preset themes and apply one to a report.

workout-wednesday

Turn a challenge link into a built, verified, published report.

deneb-pbir

Pull a Deneb spec out of a visual, edit it, render it offline, put it back.

performant-matrix

Diagnose a slow financial matrix and pick the fix that fits.

  • A Codex compatibility layer, so the skills work in OpenAI Codex too
  • The Deneb skills updated for Deneb 2.0
  • An MIT sample project: one P&L built nine ways and measured, from the P&L matrix post

Try it end to end

The best first run is this week’s Workout Wednesday challenge. Paste the link and the agent parses the brief, builds the model and the visuals, validates, screenshots the result against the original, and publishes.
